Hi all,

am looking into having a few small (1-2 pound) aluminum castings made here in the Seattle area.

Am looking for help getting patterns and castings made.

Cheers,

Bill

Hi!

There's a couple things I'm looking to have done; the first is a hood scoop. I've got one of these here, and another one I picked off of ebay which should arrive within several days; will help making the patterns.

My plan is to make the mods I want to these parts as patterns; be easier to cut the bumps off that I don't want and add the features I do.

I'll see if I can figure out how to get a pic of the part attached...

-Bill

keep in mind when casting a part like this in al, the pattern needs to be 1/4" larger per foot due to shrinkage. That scoop looks pretty large, or is that just an optical illusion??

It's about 10" X 14" X 2"; not real big.

And it's okay if the copy comes out an eighth or quarter inch smaller; I'm going to be making some changes - it's not going to be a perfect replica.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum.
I miss Seattle.

Will it be a funtioning scoop or just for looks? And, how thick is it? Might be easy to do in lost foam if it isn't too thin, then each could be unique.

It's about 3/16" thick.

As luck would have it, I just found a second one on eBay; will be using the pair of 'em for patterns.

The plan is to mount them to a board, kind of a home-made match plate. Some filler, primer, and paint to smooth out the cast surface, and I should be ready to turn it over to someone to do the gating, vents, etc.

I guess I'll just have to hang loose until the new scoop comes.
