hi everyone.i am just new about casting and melting and heating and in this website tooquestion i wanna ask about melting iron in tungsten electric furnace.i just couldnt find in internet.is it because its impossible or no one thought about it?tungsten melts at 3 thousand something celsius.and can stand untill 1700 celsius which above melting iron.so why not?and why i didnt try it yet?because i live in japan and here they dont sell this kind of rare nonusing wires.goverment dangerous stuff.so i cant find wire thatswhy.

Sounds like it could work, the amount of insulation and electricity may make it very expensive. I've built a small electric furnace to try some Aluminum in just using kiln elements from e-bay. I haven't got to try it out yet.

I think you need to look at a carbon arc furnace, they are used to melt tungsten.

no. you got me wrong.i didnt mean to melt tungsten.i said with tungsten resistor wire making furnace to melt iron.i wish someone tried and post the result in here!!!i mean who has tungsten wire

jammer,insulation could be with that heat bricks.you know.and about electric i dont think it would cost that much.in vikipedia says for 1 ton iron you need 400 kilowatt electric.so compare it with the amount we want to melt!!i think it is good idea but damn i just cant find any tungsten!!!

hey again.i see not much people cared about tungsten.wellin the end i found it in japan and receiving tomorrow.0.6 mm dia 5 meters.now i can try.i will let forum know the result.
