my rough snap flask 2 Years, 9 Months ago
im busy trying to cast o guage rail track from a die cast piece (topic of a future post)

the track is 12 inches long! and is at the limit of my flasks. so i needed a longer one and if im successful in my pattern making venture i will need many flasks! i decided to give a snap flask a go. not wanting to buy any material i decided to cast it!i used it now about thirty times and have come to like the setup . i made a rough pattern so the flask is rough. i only want it to do the job not look pretty like some ive seen.it took me a day to make the pattern, cast it and put it together and try it out with a couple of molds. (it was a long day!)

I like it!! Yes function over beauty, everytime. I made my small wood flask and promptly burnt it the first time I used it. You have been busy. I dug out my cast iron banks and toys, I'll send you some pictures to see if you think they would be castable. Well of course they are but how hard would it be. Pretty thin stuff, and I don't know if I can get them apart.

Hi XL Great work, i think the flasks are great , i only have four wood moulding flasks
and was thinking of making some more but i am a bit short of space , with snap flasks i only need a few of differant sizes and they fold up great for storage.
Track looks great , how many lenghts do you have to cast?

you will need this type of flask for the job.

Gotta like it XL! Crude and working beats fiddly and unproven any day of the week.

These have screws and or bolts, but they are pretty rusty. I haven't notice any with rivets. Most are late 1800's to eary 1900's.
