being impressed with my small flasks i wanted bigger ones! the trouble was i would have to build a very large flask to cast them in. this wouldnt be a problem if i had mates to help but i work alone and i wouldnt be able to lift them. taking a tip from dave gingerys book i made a thin frame only 1 1/2 inches thick and 20 inch by 20 inch square. the tip was to put ribs into it to hold the sand.this i use for the top box (cope) for the bottom box (drag)i used my barrow tray! you can fill the tray up as deep as needed with sand and use the frame as your top box. this setup wont cope with patterns needing a deep cope or a pattern needing a roll over. i intend to use this setup to cast my headstock for the lathe im building . the casting pictured weigh 1.9kg with their runners and sprue attached.

they will look like this when finished but bigger!!!

Nice. I am actually in the process of making some flasks as well. They will be snap flasks that the parts are interchangeable. I will be able to put together anything from 6"x8" all the way to 22"x24" and any combo in between. I have it ready to cast the biggest set. Then I will cut it and cast and repeat.

What do you mean? Snap flasks, or this design? I designed this one in particular. There are many others out there though. I have never seen any that are interchangeable though.

Yea. That site is what got me thinking about how I could make snap flasks to be interchangeable. He has his regular ones that way. He does good work. He is also the one that got me pondering my oil burner. He is on the yahoo group - castinghobby.
