Ceramic moulds for Bronze/Brass castings? 2 Years, 3 Months ago

Hello Folks !
As my work won´t give me the chance to start castings soon I´m working on the theoretical part of it, so this Question came to my mind regarding the casting of sound shells and Bells :
On a website I discovered that some foundries of East Europe and Netherlands use Ceramic Moulds, so I wondered if Ceramic is able to stand that high temperatures (or different way of asking : which Ceramic is able to stand this?).
I would like to try the traditional way of making the mould with bricks and loam or ceramic, so could somebody give me tips regarding it?
The 1st Project will be a bell of approximately 25kg, so a bit like a Ship Bell.
Thanks ,Julian

Your way over my head on this Julian. Sound like investment casting. That's a ceramic coating. You could make a bell out of wax, coat it with investment and burn out the wax.
Here's the first of a series of videos.
Bronze investment casting

Ceramic certainly can take it but beyond that i don't know. I used to melt zinc in a ceramic evaporating dish which i believe is porcelain.

That page mentions they´d use ceramic moulds for reaching very good surface details, I can show you the link if you like (but they do not display pictures of it!)
So, I could make the typical core with bricks n then ceramic as surface??

yes this is very much like investment casting or lost wax casting . these types casting requires more stuff . i had to get a kiln to start doing good quality stuff with my lost wax style casting . the bbq didnt cut it for burn out. you may want to make sure that it has proper venting at the bottom. in some research i have done i think they added some vents at the bottom. keep in mind i am just watching the youtube vids, and picking up scraps here and there.
I have opted to go with aluminum for the first bell and will sand cast it with the sweeps method. i think aluminum will be a little more forgiving for me as i am still learning.
