TOPIC: Hell on Dial-Up!

Hell on Dial-Up! 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Forum is slow on dial-up. Is it lots of GUI? I have hard time loading everything properly.. irontwig's posts on sheet wax I had to reload several times to see all the pics... Imagine CNCZone without cookies! Well what I mean is the 'Zone is huge, and even with cookies enabled, and even on a fast connection, it sucks. I rarely go there.

Maybe it's the host, I dunno enough about 'puters to know, but I do know that I have one heck of a time trying to load pages, Hitting the "back" button re-loads every page, too.

Another thing that bothers me is that even if I was the last poster on a topic. it shows up in the main index as "New Post". I don't want to see my post, I want to read the replies. I know, the last comment thing is to the right, but seeomg that big red (1 NEW!) makes me wanna click and if I don't, it stays..

Now I know only me and a couple other dudes are the only ones left in the world with dial-up, so I assume my posting here is gonna come up to an end shortly, due to the fact that it's so slow, and I ain't got a whole lots of time to waste - which is a shame, cuz I got lots of noob answers and questions that should be regarded!

I happen to know that what I do is Kindtergarden compared to some folk, but to a few, some of my approach may just help out a bit.. For that reason alone I'd be sad to leave here..

It's slow on cable too at times, not that it is slow but you never knoe just where a click is going to take you. I hit "Submit" a few times and it took me to the main "out of the forum" page and did not take my post.

The best thing I can tell you to do is what I done when I had AOL and that is to have a few windows open to here and go 'round and 'round them to let some load as you read others. That gives you something to do while your waiting.
(IF you can keep them sorted in your head and not cross post. )

Join the party,Haha I'm on dial-up too. Running at 52 kbs. No problems to speak of. Might depend on who your main server is and also how many programs are running while you're online. With dial-up patience is the key word. Penso

Try this Thor, Bookmark this link, it gos to the Active topics in so many hours and just forget looking to the forum thread listing unless you want to start a new one.

That should keep a person updated without going through all the pages before.

www.metalcastingzone.com/metal-casting-forum/latest

Then keep that page up to reload any new E-mail you get and open each post in a new window. Don't let the "Xs" overlap or you could take down both windows. (Done that before. )

Hello All,

Great to see some tips flying back and forth on how to work the forums. I did have some feedback a month or two ago about the site being slow. That being said, they were across the big pond. Then other feedback that the speed was just fine from the cable and DSL users on the site.

Because of that first feedback, I moved the site over to a dedicated server to speed it up across the board. I have also been looking at other forum solutions/packages to see if I can find the most nimble one around. I have some suspects, but nothing for sure. I will let you know when or if I get that final solution.

Thanks again for making this site your own and one of the best metal casting sites in the net. It was always ment to be a community and the whole crew is making it just that.

Have a good one,
Ivan

I suggest you look into "vBulletin® Copyright ©2000 - 2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd."
it has a lot more features and is a little more friendly
