I'm trying lost wax casting for the first time and want to know any recipe ideas and tips for making slurry?

Welcome to the forum.

Are you wanting a shell casting formula or a full investment mix?
I've only done a few lost wax, I've been using Plaster of Paris and Silica flour mix. I'm up to about half and half.

Hi Alfiebird
Welcome to the forum. Find your nearest jewellery tool supplier. Investment mix is available from most of these places. You should be able to get small quantities 4 or 5 LBs . Can supply suitable investment plaster slurry for any metal you need to cast. Saves you all the problems of making your own. Be more reliable too for good results.
Hope this helps JOHNCAST.

ps Have a look at my profile page ,there is a shot on the right of one my brass castings using Satin cast 20 investment. 1/87 scale model componets

JOHNCAST, I went to Columbus Oh. to a jewelry supply place to see if they had Satincast in small quantities. They were closed, the city had the street and sidewalk tore up so I think they took vacation.

I'd like to try it out. I'm also thinking of putting together a small vacuum casting set-up.

Hi Jammer
Finally got on to the web site . Been Busy..
Too bad the supply place was closed. Try again later. If you are looking at putting a vacume casting setup together look at the vacume chamber casting units they should have on display at the jewellery tool supply places. the units that are in the jewellery casting line are very compact & neat.I use my vacume chamber more for resin casting than lost brass. I bought my first vacume chamber unit back in 1990 for resin. Than a twin unit in 2004 with other bits .You can keep a lookout on ebay for second hand units as I did, you can pick up good buys. Vacuming RTV rubber is another use. JOHNCAST

I got the litle vacuum chamber I put together. At first it wouldn't pull more than 25 mm/hg but after I changed the oil and ran it a few times it's up to 29 mm/hg. I was thinking of hooking it to a tank for volume and running a line to a table for casting.

Another caster is using Malochite 200 and Malochite 30-60 for a slurry. I looked it up and it's Calcined Kaolin. I checked at the pottery supply and it costs more than Kerr Satincast, now if I can get some Satincast without paying shipping.
