build a dam around the bottom of the cylinder.

let the plaster set up.

now you are ready to mix investment.

(i think there is investment info in general casting questions)

basically: plaster
sand
pearlite
water

fill your cylinder carefully!

you don't want to disturb the wax.

once the investment has set up you can remove
the plastic, tar paper, and wood.

( this is all trash, just needed to make mold)

these investment mold will be burned out in a kiln.

this dries them out and melts the wax leaving a cavity.

this process has a lot of waste,

but the parts and detail is worth it.

there is your raw finished part.

the gating and vents are cut off.

( this metal can be re-melted )

all that is left is some work with the file.

here are a few of the pieces cleaned up.

the fit to the original steel is great.

i hope that following this piece all the way thru

is helpful to everyone.

good luck with your casting...

You don't reuse the plaster ?

I have ground it up and mixed it with new, it mades it set a bit faster,
(I did not heat it that hot ether and sofar is more tests than anything.)

I'm saveing all the big juice cans (1/2gal ?) to do lost wax in, do you think they will work ?
