By the way, That is very beautiful. Is it clay? also to keep it from weighing a ton coat the inside of the mold with about 1/4" of wax to make the wax pattern to that it is hollow and open in the back.

That kind of looked like my boss this morning when we got off work, except he has bigger teeth.
Very nice sculpture. You should be able to keep the gate and sprue or sprues at the back.
Lost wax will give you the best results, it just has more equipment and more steps. Once you have a mold you can do as many as you want.
Expert village has a lot about lost wax.

Re:Need help 1 Year, 3 Months ago
im assuming its a shell and you are going to cast it in a sand mould... sprue in the middle and gates like the spokes on a wheel. you will need to vent all the thick areas and you will need a few risers as well. as to the exact positioning of the risers and vents will depend on the mold. to just use the lion as is for a pattern i can see some bad undercutting so this rules out basic sand casting. how big is it??? it looks big. do you think you can cast a plaster replica of it???im just a bit concerned about the mouth area??? the eyebrow??? and some of the maine folds. a lot of this kinda of ornament are cast in silicone rubber molds with just peel away after the resin, platic ,plaster ect is dry. bronze on the other hand is a completely different story as is other metals and alloys. if you are serious about casting it... take it to a foundry and get a professional opion. pics are great for a rough idea and a rough answer.actually seeing the item will determine the exact way to handle the job. i hope this helps .please keep us posted with your progress good or bad.( we love to be proven wrong or right!)
