I've got a 20" dia water tank that I want to turn into a burnout oven. Half of it anyway. the other half I want to make into a muller.
I'm going to insulate it with ceramic blanket and then put up a layer of fire brick. I'll probably use a propane weed burner from Harbor frieght for the heat. If it doesn't get hot enough I'll use a force air propane burner. I don't have any plans, I just kind of wing it. I'll put some pictures on when I get it started.

My other thought was to get an old electric stove and insulate the oven more and wire the heating elements direct, bypassing the temp control. I don't know if it would get hot enough for total burn out of wax, but it might lessen the amount of propane needed to finish it up.

there are usually heating elements for kilns available on e bay for about 20.00 each
and digital temp controllers with the relay available for about 100.00 then all you need is a housing to keep the heat in
i though about building one but found one cheap on craigs list that works fine for me.

So I could use a kiln for pottery if I change out the heating elements and temp controls?Or is that not possible.Am I going to need to build the housing?

i have been useing my kiln as is with no modifications and have had excellent results. I would like in the future to add a digital temp controller to it instead of just going off what color it glows inside to tell what temp it is.
I have also melted aluminum inside the kiln

That's a nice looking oven. I hope he used some ridgidizer on the blanket so there wouldn't be ceramic fibers flying around. Or, there is new kaowool that isn't harmfulto breathe.

Hey, Welcome to the forum.
