Help! List of waxes suitable for casting? 3 Years, 1 Month ago
Hello Everyone! I'm a newbie here with a very newbie question:
I've read of different waxes people use which are available specifically for casting metals. All of the posts I've read, BTW, have been great to read and very helpful!

What I'm looking for is a list of other waxes or media which are also suitable for casting pewter, silver, aluminium, copper, brass. What waxes are NOT to be used for casting? Can I use beeswax, paraffin, candle wax, non-hardening modeling clay, etc.?

Also, does anyone know of any links to green sand recipes?

Thank you all in advance for your help! What a brilliant community - I love this site!!

you arent alone wondering about alternative waxes that have been used. i for one.lol i only know what ive seen on youtube! the basic idea is to have a object either carved or cast that is used for a pattern. this object is either melted out of the mold or burnt out.this leaves a cavity in the shape of the object! my question is .... im concerned about the residue left behind in the mold ,be it an oily wash or black soot, and how this will affect the final product.keep us posted with your findings.
