can any one put me in the right direction on how to do lost foam casting . is it making the mold and ramming up with green sand and then just pour

im not sure myself??? so somewhere start!!! or this is what i have in mind doing from what ive peiced together. make a pattern from foam boxes ,packing .... ram the green sand over it. now for the part im not sure about. i think you torch the foam item to burn away the foam leaving the mold.then pour the metal. im also unsure about venting as the foam would give off quite a gas. im aware there are many different ways of making foam items to be used in such manner. keep us posted with your progress.

I might be the last person to ask because I tried for the first time today but I just cut a shape out of pink insulation foam covered it in masking tape and buried it in play sand. you just pour the metal, I used zinc, on the foam and it is melted away.

The results were fairly crude but so was my starting form. Definitly something I am going to keep working on.

thanks i think that is corect that you vent the sand so your foam can go away and you just pour thanks chris
