TOPIC: Removing mud after the pour
#1412
Removing mud after the pour 2 Years, 11 Months ago
I have a question. does anyone know a good way to remove the mud from the outside of the foam after a pour. I have a fairly complicated mold that has been a challange to scrape. I was thinking:
Coke.
white vinegar.
oven cleaner.

Any thoughts?

My projects:
Obama belt buckle.
Lost foam napkin rings
Fish belt buckle.

mud??????? a pic of the problem might be useful. what type of metal are you using?? a corrosive cleaner may harm the surface of your item. have you tried a small wire brush about the size of a toothbrush . they come normally in sets of three containing a strong nylon brush, one that has brass wire and one that has steel wire. i find them very useful .

Sorry should have been more specific. I have been using drywall mud around the foam and pouring zinc. The bulk comes off easy but the last bit does not especially in holes. I have been using a wire brush but it is a large one which make getting into small spaces a challange.

In case you were wondering the coke did not do much.

you could try high pressure water blasting??????or maybe a petroleum solvent like kerosene rather than a corrosive cleaner.

I dont understand what the mud is for. I just bury in the sand and pour. Detail is exact and finish wonderful. Why coat it? It works fine without. I must be missing something. Here is my lathe bridge for a boring bar. Plain sand uncoated stryo . Looks like I bought it not made it.
