Lost foam with packaging peanuts 1 Year ago
So I have been working on making sculpture with packaging peanuts. I think the trickyest part has been cleaning out the fine grooves. Additionall I have had trouble with hot glue obstructing the flow of the metal. What do you all think about using a pressure washer to clean out the groves. I was thinking about also using small pins or maybe wire to attach the peanuts instead of hot glue to avoid obstruction. Of course this might make getting the plaster on with out bending the form a challenge. Has anyone else tried peanuts. it gives a pretty cool look.

That looks pretty cool. I remember someone last year that used peanuts as legs on a small display table, just a foam disc and 3 peanuts glued on. But, your doing Art.
I don't know about the bits of plaster, maybe soak in some muratic acid and a tiny wire brush, with gloves and a face shield of course. Hey, dental picks. I've seen some of them at Army Surplus Stores.

Thanks

Muratic acid. I think that came up on car talk once for taking a concrete spill off of a car without ruining the paint. I might have to give that a try. Testing it on a small area first of course. I'll post if I end up getting some with the results. Thanks for the idea.

You said Zinc in another thread. Did you cast this in Zinc? If so, you have to be careful with the acid. Muratic is just dilute HCl acid and you may get a reaction, could make some Hydrogen Gas. Do a small metal test and stay well ventalated.

hmmm I did say zinc. Hcl does not sound great for that. I remember in Chem class in HS we used hcl (likely at a higher molarity) to eat the zinc out of a penny leaving behind the copper plating.
