our first test fire of our furnace went well and we had molten aluminum.

all we had was some play sand and foam, so i went over to the bandsaw.

the piece suffered from a sand collapse as the foam vaporized,

but i plan to try again.

i have tried to attach an image to a post and i can't seem to be able to do it.

i couldn't figure out how i knew how to cast metal, but i couldn't attach a photo.

it was nice to hear that it was a bug and not me.


today we melted again and tried a few different formulas of "green" sand.

we packed foam into our sand mix and poured into them.

one had too much moisture in the sand and the aluminum bubbled and failed.

the other three attempts were somewhat successful and we ended our pour with our first real products.

i had to do an anvil again and my friend did a figurative sculpture.

i forgot the battery for my camera so i will have to include photos later.

hey hey,

i tried my anvil again.

it was made of foam, but i

made the cast by investing it and burning it out...

it came out nice and i used an etch to get a good color.

i am not going to use it for work... it is just a decoration.

What "etch" did you use to get the color? Could you possibly post the recipe?

Nice job on the anvil. especially with just a band saw and a quick sanding to roun it out a little bit. I hope to be casting this winter.
