Fixing a foam form? 1 Year, 2 Months ago
I've casted a few Raw foam items so far. I was in the process of creating a template for a sand rammer, and the handle keeps having problems. I'm taking a piece of foam driving a rod through it and chucking it up in the drill press . I have a few nicks and dings that I'd like to be able to fill. Has anyone come up with a filler for foam that will burn away in the pour?

Thanks Bob

im no expert and im just researching lost foam casting. from what ive learnt hot melt glue seems to be ok as ive seen letters and things added to the foam with hot melt and they come out ok. so i figure hot melt glue might be able to fill a small hole.

I'll have to give that a try today. I know there was some concern about the hot glue plugging up vent lines. But your right about it being used for lettering, so it must melt to some degree.

Thanks Bob

Why not try the hot glue on a large scrape on a test piece and work from there. There is no reason to experiment with your form.
Another option would be to a few layers of tape a a bridge over the gap. That of course would only work if you were working on something flat.

I have turned on hot glue. I don't think it melts out well. I have been finding it on various surfaces of my forms and it is sometimes occluding channels. Of course I am working in zinc and perhaps a hotter metal would not have this problem.

im still yet to give it a go but i think you are right about not being hot enough to melt out the hot melt glue.
