Metal Casting Zone

today we poured into a few different formulas of "green sand"

my friend tried a mix of fine sand and fire clay (powder).

moisture was added with a spray bottle as he packed the mold.

he packed the sand around a foam shape and here it is.

the surface had some flaws but all in all it was a success.

here is my piece...

i mixed a "green sand" made from cat litter, fine sand, and fire clay (powder).

again moisture was added with a spray bottle and the sand was packed around the foam.

this was done as a relief with an open back...other than the off gassing i think this went well.

foam is fast to sculpt and the hot wire cutter gives a great texture to the surface.

that is the name of our studio.

i put my new casting on the door to my studio.
