Lost Wax Help 1 Year, 8 Months ago
I need to make 10 parts the exact same. Im trying to make parts for my paintball guns. Ive used lost foam before but i thought i could make a plaster mold and then fill it with wax and make 10 wax parts. My question is, Is Lost Wax like Lost Foam but wax instead?

Maybe someone has a better idea for making 10 parts the exact same.

Note. I live out in the middle of no where(Haliburton Ontario Canada)and cant fined a place that sells casting supply's.

Thanks in advance.

What ever you do dont pour molten metal onto wax, It will be like a volcano in your face. I tried to use plaster of paris to do what you are talking about but the mold didnt hold up very well and broke apart on the 3rd pour.
How big and how thick are the parts you are trying to make? Can you post a picture?
under lost wax casting on the forum look at my attempt under not so lost wax

I've tried a couple lost wax pours without success. I can't seem to get all the wax burnt out. I'm building a small electric oven that should make it more controlled. The propane weed burner wasn't even heat and cracked one side of the mold. It still boiled and spit at me when I poured brass into it, so there was still some wax left.
Right now I'm using 2 parts Plaster of Paris to 1 part silica flour, I may try 1:1 ratio next time. I have heard of using 1 part POP to 3 parts Si flour, but that doesn't sound very strong. I've also read about using some wood dust or brick dust to help ventalation.
As for the 10 parts, if they are small you can make 10 wax parts and build them up on a wax tree, pour the investment on them, burn out the wax and cast all 10 at once. There are some videos on U-toob under lost wax / jewelery making. They make it look easy.

Welcome, keep us posted on your progress.
