hi guys,
soory, i was visiting/ eating and drinking in france for the last two weeks.( 2 weeks= ..+ 3kg /..) .
just back here .. we "broke" the mold today, sand/ciment is .. strong but breakable.. all look goood exepted two smalls spot where some "sheat" floating on the lead can't eacape by the vent hole.. so, will do tiny refill there.. but all is fine!!! pict from the part cleaned after tomorrow on the blog !! so.. success!! thanks again to all of you for actives and constructives comments and support.. cheer's

nothing impossible ..

That sounds great Bertho.
I wouldn't be able to wait that long to open the mold. I always burn myself trying to peek.
Glad you had a good vacation.

I've checked back on Bertho's site and it looks like he got it out of the mold and is bolting it on. Looks like a really good, solid casting
I wonder if he actually weighed it to see if it was 8 tons?

Hi Jammer.
YESS ! done ! the volume as per calculation should be 8200kg..as i get my volume..so. after we discuss about the exact density, variable due to antimony % ,i have no instrument to wieght the bloc, but i tell you, you feel really what is the terrestre attraction for heavy metal when you need to move such part !!
we spend some time to clean the part from the ciment, in some place, the part have 2/3 mm of a mix ciment/lead.( only at the lowest part of the mold, i guess it's due to the pression much more hight in this area when we pour the lead..) .what is very difficult to clean, and increadibly abrasive for any tool, it's pure silicat. next time, willcover the foam with a clay or something to isolate the sand/ciment.
if someone have to do the same crazy casting , be free to contact me for details!!welcome!
warm regards to all !!

That's great Bertho.
When will you start casting all the brass parts and bells for your vessels?

Ok, I just thought anyone who can cast an 8 tonne keel wouldn't have any trouble with a little brass bell.
I'll keep checking your progress on your blog. Looks like it's coming together very well.
