Materials? 2 Years ago
Hey guys,
New here and I am excited about the opportunity to start making silver biker rings. I can't wait to start. I want to do the LOST WAX process. I am trying to set up a home shop for CHEAP! Where do even start and what do I need? Can I find this stuff used? Is there a DIY option? Your help is very appreciated. Thanks, Jim

You can do it in the home shop if you want to start small.

Eurethane plastic makes a good mold and they are good for hundreds of parts.

You can use something as simple as a medical syringe to "inject" the wax into them.

A hotplate works well for heating wax. A soldering iron on a light dimmer switch will work for adding gates and vents to the wax pattern.

A slurry can be used in a metal cylinder to get the casting mold going.

An old electric oven can be used to dewax them.

An old gas oven will burn out the wax and dry them.

You can build a simple furnace to melt your metal with, by using common items around the home.

Spoken like a true Tinker.

Yes, Try a few thing out starting with Lead or Pewter and get you feet wet. read everything you can. Look at the high dollar stuff and think "how can I do that for less". But, Be Safe!! Molten metal is dangerous to all important body parts so be careful.

I must have missed your post.

cheap??? the silver is the expensive bit!!! depending on size ...all you need is a crucible and an oxy set! plus your molds.
