Material Strength Allowable Values 2 Years, 11 Months ago
Hi all,

I am currently attempting to analyze an investment cast part for military aerospace use. It is cast from IC-4140 steel. I have been unable to find a complete set of strength property data for basing strength margins. At a minimum, the values that i'm looking for are ultimate shear Strength (Fsu), ultimate bearing strength (Fbru) at e/D = 1.5 and e/D = 2.0, and modulus of elasticity (E). Does anyone now of any documentation where these values may be quoted?

thanks,
msn

I'm sure ASTM has a manual for it somewhere. They can be very expensive. The ones we have where I work are only for low alloy steels 1008 to 1090 specs. Find a material science student from college. They like to find info. We had an intern last summer and he would come up with all kinds of stuff. I'll ask our metalurgist but he usually goes off on mindless ramblings and a lot of "but ifs" and "it depends".
