oh yea, to get the head pressure up you need height more so than width, although width will help keep the temp up and avoid cold shuts

Hi mrchress
Sorry, I cannot see this procedure getting good or constant results.I have read in jewellery books that a syringe can be used for wax injection.
The nozzel of the injector or syringe has to fit very snug to the end cavity at the end of the mould. Pretty close to a air tight fit,or air bubbles can get in to the wax pattern.
A few problems I see in this procedure . How is the wax maintained at a correct injection temp?? 65oC to 72oC is around the temp to maintain
How is the mould held to inject (CLAMPS )How is the correct pressure placed onto the wax to inject the wax into the mould???
Another important step in making waxes is some wax moulds need a long hold time under pressure ,only 3 to 5 sec large items 9 or 10 sec how is this acheived with a syringe??
These are quite exacting peramaters required for good wax production.
Sorry to put some negitives on your interest of casting your own items mrchress but I can only see difficulties and disapointment for you .

Ive been useing a syringe for makeing wax patters for connecting rods, I measure the temp with a thermometer and when it hits 165f I suck it up and inject. The rods are quite beefy so the take a bit to cool but i do manage to hold pressure on them for a min or so. The syringe I use has a conical end than seals well against the mold. I have had some problems with air but not so mant times as to warrant a wax injection pot just yet. But I do have plans on casting one in the near future.
One onthe thing, if the wax injection temp it too high I get some excessive shrinkage, not much I can do about it except let the wax cool down and try again. Maybe a double boiler would help?

I picked up a used (actually antique) dental centrifigal casting machine on EBAY pretty cheap, about 60 bucks and it works just great for casting silver for knife parts as well as jewellery. I use satincast investment and get great detail with lost wax casts. Hope this is some help.

Wow!
Seems like your pushing the very limits of casting. I figure your pretty much on it.
The finest clays and waxes combined with the most fluid metals may get you there. Oh and jewelry makers might be helpful.

Perhaps being very small you could substitute acrylic gesso for the rubber....pretty cheap. Reinforce this with plaster....cheap cheap.
But if your not going to repeat much just vent well and use plaster or fireclay and douse it with play sand in between layers. That oughta keep the cost down...so you can turn up the volume.
