Ejector Pads OR Injector location?? 1 Year, 7 Months ago
Hi guys,

I have a small military badge, about 3 inches tall and 2 inches wide, weights about 15 grams. I am certain that it is cast, since i see seams all around it, but there is also 4 circular marks on the reverse. Would I be right to assume these are EJECTOR Pad marks? Someone told me these might be actually INJECTOR marks, where the molten zink was poured in, but in all my research, I have only seen that there is only 1 INJECTOR gate, but usually multiple Ejector marks, so my thought is that these are ejector marks.

Thanks for the help.

yes, to me they look like ejection pins marks, you can see the flash a round the hole.
maybe came out of some kinda of steel diecastmold. the (2)may mean it came from a two cavity mold or is cavity # 2 and looks like there might be some kind of date code on it.if you can see a parting line around it it may have came from a injection mold.

Hi Wickee,

Thanks for the reply. Here are some more closeups, hopefully will make it clearer for us to discuss. I am just really surprised that these would be injector marks, as everything I have read about shows only 1 injector gate, and its always pretty small compared to the multiple, and larger ejector pads.

The pads on these badges can be either raised or recessed, so that is some additional evidence that they may actually be the injector location. However, I have also seen where the ejector pins don't always lock back down in the flush position, so that could cause the ejector pads to be raised or recessed too.

You say that these are injector ports because there is flashing around the "pad" marks, but couldn't there also be flashing around ejector pins because there is die seam there as well, just like around the rest of the badge where the front and rear dies meet?

Thanks Wickee.

the pad that is recessed may be how they filled the mold and the rest are ejector pin marks? that also looks like a rivet ?

can you see if there is some kinda of gate cutoff at the parting line?
