Dying aluminum without anodizing? 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago

So my friends and I are in the process of sandcasting a chess set, and we are mostly finished but need a way to distinguish the black from the white. We were planning on anodizing, but it seems like it will be too difficult and we won't be able to get the right stuff. So is there another relatively easy way to die aluminum? It needs to be permanent, and not come off easily.
Thanks!
