Am I in the right place? Noob questions. 2 Years, 2 Months ago
I do a bit of Jewelry designs and random things for stores as a hobby.
However majority of it is with things that have already been made and I just rig something together.
Recently my sister started a clothing store selling multiple clothing and accessories made by small brand names in the island.
I decided to try and invest a bit in my hobby, since I have been making quite a lot of money from recent promotion.
I have come up with a name, probably change it later.
But while hunting for some jewelry I noticed something.
Metal buttons were made with their logos on them and several other types of objects too.

Example:

kieljamespatrick.com/product.cfm?pRef=205
I figure the Kiel James Patrick ones used an epoxy paint to put in the colors.

I found it to be a very interesting way to put the brand name on what you make.
However I was wondering how to do it.
I stumbled upon here.
So I just have two major questions.
Can metal casting really make such small objects with such great detail?
Is their a specific method that produces better results with small things such as these?[/img]

Those buttons are probably stamped with a steel die like a coin is made. You can get some good detail with casting, maybe not that fine. You-tube has some instructional videos on jewelry making. Things like lost wax casting, centifugal and vacuum casting can get some good detail.

Are any of these methods ones where I'll be able to retrieve the mold, so I don't have to keep making one every time I just one to make one button.

Some silicone molds can be used for lower melting metals, there are others on here that have made some small parts.

Here's a video for lost wax, it shows making a "tree". You can do several pieces at once with one rubber mold and you just cast several wax patterns and mount them all together, burn out the wax and cast them in metal. Zinc or pewter might be good to start with. I've been playing with this some. I'm cheap and am trying to make my own equipment. I've started a vacuum table and hope to try it soon.

Oh, and the Abercrombie and fitch button actually looked like two halfs were put together.

So it seems I'm doing spin casting.
However I suck at carving.
I tried it before with hard wax.
I failed terribly.
Is there anywhere that would make the custom rubber mold for a price?
