Addition of ferro boron, off gssing/oxy question 1 Year, 4 Months ago
Greetings.
I have an austenetic, low alloy steel I'm working on. There is no carbon in this system. I will try and harden it up with the use of boron.

I know you must add boron to aluminum killed steel, as the boron will leave with any oxygen.

Question;
I have a small antechamber that contains a small bit of ferro boron for alloying, that the molten iron will mix with after meting through a door.

If I purge the system with helium, will I need a little less Al to kill my steel? Thanks, Jerry
