Okay, First, I decided to move here before I get my hand slapped for posting tin the wrong place.....The new member intro section.
Now I have gleaned tons of info on what to do and how to do it but haven't actually done anything yet. When I get back to Canada in April I assure you I will be up and running in no time.....The money I save in making parts is going to buy me a "Smithy 3 in 1 lathe, drill, mill" then the chips will fly.

No hand slapping here, I hit "Recent Discussions" bar and read all the new posts. I don't know which thread I'm on half the time.

You'll be the terror of the neighborhood when you get home. Diggin sand, scrounging scrap, flames lighting up the night sky, Hey Wait that's me.
Except I dig clay.

Same here Sparky. I use the "Forums Tools" to the upper right and then "Show Latest Post" from there. Unless I am starting a thread I don't pay much attention to where I am.

I envy you guys fun with furnaces and such. I'm stuck in an indoors apartment so a Lee melter is as hot as I can get. But I enjoy observing you folks efforts. Not to mention a heap of advice.

Jammer pointed me to a $35.00 digital thermocouple that now is now part of my set up. JOHNCAST has answered some detailed questions with details on a few matters. And just last night Another old timer in the casting trade Village Tinker related his experience with an electroplating system. This is a great place to learn and share.

A lot of people to help you keep the sparks in the zone Sparky, as you get your set up together. Of course that responsibility is ultimately yours. Luckily fire extinguisher are not too expensive these days, and a shovel and bucket of sand is even cheaper for you outside casters. Both are good to have though.

Your local library may have some books on casting as well. Mine had seven related books. A learned a good bit from Tim McCreight's "The Complete Metalsmith," and still need to read his "Practical Casting- A Studio Reference."
