Hey everybody! I've started working on a new foundry so I can make my own aluminum parts for the CNC machine I'm building (the second one actually)

I've posted pics and the "story" of all my projects on my site - check it out here
www.jamiecunningham.name/projects/foundry/53-aluminum-foundry.html

That's a link to the foundry project - but you can easily find the other projects

Hello Jamie,

Cool site. I like the Joomla style. It looks like you have some good projects going on over there. Keep us posted. There are plenty of casting and cnc people in the community.

Have a good one,
Ivan

After looking at your sites more, you and I have a lot of common interests. Some CNC, Metal Casting, Web Designing, etc. If I ever get transferred to the East Coast I will look you up.

Have a good one,
Ivan

Thanks - I've since moved on from that burner and made my own with a blower that really rocks! - there's a post on my site HERE for that if you're interested...

I've also created a video that goes through the process of creating the foam part to finishing it in the end after casting HERE

Check them out if you get a chance!

Hey. Nice site. I have been thinking about building a cnc machine as well. About how much does something like that cost to build?

Re:New Backyard Foundry 3 Years ago
That really depends the first machine cost me about $500 or so - but I salvaged parts from old printers and built it out of MDF and I already had a computer to use for it as well... I got the controller for the steppers from Hobby CNC and put it together myself too (that saved a little $) - basically I went as cheap as I could on everything - and I may possible have one of the cheapest CNC machines out there!

I'm not cutting as many corners with this next machine as I had to buy the Aluminum extrusion - but I got a good deal off eBay and everything else I'm either trying to cast myself or get cheap off eBay
