Is that cast iron? OddDuck was doing one with a blind shrink bob. Just a large area next to the casting to hold molten metal while the smaller casting cools. It feeds it as it shrinks.

looking good rob. it always seems to rain whilst im casting here as well. my theory is that my furnace puts out so much heat that the air rises and then it rains on top of me!

You could try to anneal it. Put the piece in your furnace and heat it up to bright red to orange heat, let it heat soak a little and then turn off the burner. Close the lid, block the vent and tuyere if you can. Leave it set overnight to cool as slow as possible.
