My First Furnace 10 Months ago
First crack at a furnace is turning out ok. I still need to make a lid but I couldnt resist giving it a fire up to test out the oil burner. Very happy so far.

Converted LPG Cylinder for feeding oil. I added a pickup tube and air fitting to allow a gentle assist from the compressor. Only about 1 PSI.

this is looking good did you have your air on full blast??? it may have to work a little harder for melting but the lid will improve things.

the vid link works well thats going very well indeed. when you make your lid ...try and work out a way of having an adjustable vent. that is its very much standard to have a 3 inch top vent for lpg gas. i have a 8 inch vent but i made a "chimney pot" that i can sit on top. im burning wood and gas but if my wood is too smokey i take the pot off the top for a bit . this is ok for aluminium but not for brass where i need all the heat i can get.others here have had to tinker a bit with the top vent so i suggest you make it so you can adjust it if needed. just a thought.

The blower is a vacuum cleaner with a variable speed motor. I squashed the end of the oil feed tube so it squirts a small jet of oil into the flame but I dont know that it would make any difference than drip feeding.

That looks plenty hot. Yes, a lid will help hold the heat in. Play with the oil feed to find the sweet spot!! Not much flame out the top but a lot of heat in the furnace. I've waited and waited on a melt only to turn down the fuel and get twice the heat. So it seems to me anyway.

spraying the oil is best if you can do it! drip feed if you cant. preheating the furnace before oil seems quite vital.im playing around with solid cooking oil at present! plenty of flame but no heat. plenty of smoke and a yummy smell! trial and error dont you just love it!!

I thought about using restaurant oil, but I'd gain 20 pounds.
