Metal Casting Zone

Ive been toying with a couple of projects but the one I have been staying on the most is the steam engine I am building. This is the cylinder pattern for the engine I will be fitting into my boat as a single and to the bicycle as a double simple.
I have all ways loved steam and steam boats but for some reason the steam bike has me more motovated and many of my friends want to see it built first, so they are keeping me motovated in that direction also.
The engine for the bike when finished will be a double simple 2"x2.5" running at 200psi. I could not find any plans for an engine of this size so I have been taking ideas from several engine and pieceing them together.
With any luck Ill have the cyl cast here in the next couple of weeks

excellent! 200 psi ????what will you use for a boiler??most of our large engines run at 120 to 150 psi and you need a license to operate and annual inspections by government inspectors. did you mean kpa???

to my knowledge anthing over 1 bar in my area has to be certified so I might as well build it to get some higher pressures.

you may as well go that high! what about a whistle??? cast a nice brass one.!

I hate to admit it but I made a major boo boo on this pattern. I didnt allow enough space for my exhaust steam port Oh well Im currently re stacking the deck so to speak and will have the new cyl completed by the end of the week.
I usually cad things out first and did make some cad images to use for templates but didnt do an overall (trying to cut corners) and got bit in the butt.
Wonder if I can sell the boo boo pattern on ebay?

someone might buy it as "foundry art" and mount it in a glass case. you never know!

What type of "bike" are you building, a Harley, Schwinn, or Moped? In any case, I don't know if I would like 200 psi boiling water between my legs.
A trike may be OK, with the boiler in the back.

Its going to be a trike, I dont like the idea of a boiler between my legs either not only that but a bicycle cant hold much water to travel very far for very long.

Im running into boiler issues as far as having it certified, they dont make it so a back yarder can build his own boiler and have it certified. you need a engineering degree, an r stamp for welding, and alot of other B/S

Oh well guess i wont have a certified boiler and they will have to catch me running to fine me. to avoid that there is all ways the blow down valve!! lets see them find me in a cloud of steam !!

then again there is this variance thing that might be a back door

what a bummer! its worldwide tho.steam hobbyists can only go up to 20psi legally but many run at 26 to 30 psi. above 40 psi you need to hold a steam ticket here.changes have just come in that you can have a "historical" steam ticket. this allows you to operate a steam roller or te ect but doesnt allow you to operate modern boilers.maybe you could claim your trike as "historical" and maybe less rules applies!
