The NADCA has an in-depth introduction to the Die Casting Process. It has schematics and an entire section with Die Casting advantages and disadvantages over other casting processes. There are also narriated animations for various parts of the Die Casting Process. Check it out.

Also check out the AFS - American Foundry Society - They have joined forces as it were in many areas of aluminum casting. Where NADCA is Die Cast, AFS is primarily green sand, investment, etc. I apologize for not having a link to their site, but it should be easy to find in a search...
