Welcome to the forum.

I would agree also, avoid anything with portland cement in it. I've had small explosions just using a torch over concrete. I can't imagine what would happen with several pounds of hot metal.

900 F equals about 482 C

C= (F-32)/1.8

F= C x 1.8 + 32

hmm i have my doubts about casting "plates" for boat building.cast aluminium isnt as strong as pressure rolled sheet formed up under pressure. my primitive understanding is that in "cast" metal the molecules settle as such and may be loosely bonded. forming the metal under pressure rollers tends to compress and "straighten" the molecules out resulting in a higher tensile strength. ("phew" where did that come from. lol lol )

Yes you're right but some allowed can be tempered by heat. Thus after casting, a heat treatment coulds be applied to get the desired mechanical resistance. At least that is an avenue I'm looking into.

Thanks for the conversion.

Do you think the mold could explode even if it's slowly preheated close to the melting point of Aluminium ?
