i wonder about this at times. I think it would be nice to make one that is powered by pulling on a rope around an axel.
I have also tried making one with a broken fan but I do not trust it.

yes im thinking of an old lawnmower spring. when i was kid (40 yr ago) the "latest" lawnmowers here had a fold down winder. you wound it up and pulled a lever on the side.... i still see some around! mostly on the scrap heap. as i havent done a trip to the scrap heap as yet .....???? you never know! if one of these units was mounted up side down attached to a shaft and then on the shaft it had its arm......???? small bolts could be "set" into the crucible to attach it to the arm. im thinking my old furnace lid which has got very thin would make a good surround once its been treated with rust converter. the idea of just using the oxy torch to melt a bit of brass (gold is too expensive lol lol)and casting small model parts such as steering wheels ...cogs..gears...steam valves ....fittings ...is very appealing.
