sift your green sand. 1 Year, 1 Month ago
today i dried my sand and sifted it. this is the second time ive done this so i know i started out with uniform sand. ive made about thirty molds from this sand and kept it damp to aid mulling but imperfections have started to surface so i dried the sand and sifted it. it was only a handful but if these lumps came in contact with a pattern ....!

this rubbish consists of fused sand ,dry baked bits of sand, small flecks of aluminium and brass. this was sifted out of half of the pictured drum of sand after about thirty castings.

wow. That can't be good. Someone here suggested and i have started drying mine and running it through a garbage disposal after each casting.

As long as you have dry sand... great. You just keep a slow steady flow going. You can choke it down if you dump too much at once, but it works great. It seems as though it may also cut the grain size a little at a time as well. After a good while the sand should end up a bit finer.

I was starting to. That is why I started using the disposal. It chops it up finely though.
