Question from the site survey...
Question:
How can a back-yard caster heat treat aluminum sand castings to achieve a uniform dense grain structure?
Have a good one,
Ivan

I don't know about "uniform dense grain structure" but you can put them in a oven at 400-500F for a few hours and it helps Al. They ncall it "Artificial Ageing".

"uniform grain structure"? not sure. But heat treating does increase the stability of aluminum castings.
Sometimes aluminum castings are stress relieved with heat after machining them to prevent breakage.
