Metal Casting Zone

Well, I am starting to get a bit better results. I added more clay to my sand. I am using bentonite clay and silica sand. I have a mix now of about 5 to 1 (in volume) sand to clay. Castings are getting smoother.

im totally drying my sand now. i use a beater in my drill to break it up and then use a sifter to sift the sand. i never realised till i did this how much fine metal had mixed with my sand. i then just condition the sand with my drill and beater after ive added just a drop of water. i leave the sand for a bit and beat it up just before i use it. i use this sand against the pattern and if im filling a larger flask i just top the flask up with rougher sand.
