Here is the start.

I figured out that it was a water tank.

Here is a question I have that I will run into in the future... I picked up an old yard blower that someone was trashing that I will use for the blower. What if I hooked a simple dimmer switch to it. Would it work to slow the fan down or would the blower not respond to it right?

aonemarine, yea it is about time isn't it. I like what you have done with Elcheapo II. I will probably take that direction somewhat with mine too.

im not sure how well a dimmer switch would work for you, im not sure it will hold the amps. Harbor freight makes a router speed controller that should do the trick and its only 20.00

Cut off those brackets on top today. Here is a pic. I think I will wait to cut those bolts off. They may come in handy. This thing measures 16" in diameter and is 2 ft tall. How far up do you guys think I should cut it off for the top?

Figure out what size crucible you want to use. Build your inside around that. About a 2" Plinth block and 2" above the crucible with an 1 1/2" to 2" clearance on the sides, meaning 3 to 4 inches larger diameter lining than the crucible diameter.
Looks like the same sized tank I used. I've got a 3/4" thick lining back up with Ceramic wool. Out side still gets plenty warm after a good run.
Don't forget the Wheels.

wheels!!!!!!for scottydawg???? he isnt old enough for wheels lol lol i would say about 2/3 for the furnace maybe a bit more and a third for the lid. those bolts are good and i would leave them on for now. a dimmer switch is way too light. i havent seen them for ages here but you use to get speed controllers for electric drills here. something like that would be good.

Explain why you would cut it in three peices. How does this help? You can guarantee wheels are going on this one. My back feels older than the rest of me does. LOL

LOLwheels are good ask jammer. you said you have 2 feet... so by dividing into thirds . thats 16 inches plus 8 inches = 24 so 8 inches for the lid but this may be a bit much.what do you think?

Dono. I am just tryin to figure out why not just cut a lid about 3 inches from the top? Would three peices give you a benefit?
