Metal Casting Zone

Well, I can't stand it any longer. Since my furnace self destructed (well, with my help) I have been wanting to wait and save up some cash to do a 3000 degree furnace. One thing after another has been preventing that, so I can not stand it any longer. I am starting to build one out of what I have to process some AL scrap that is really starting to pile up. I happened upon a metal tank someone was trashing. looks about 30 gallons or so. Looks alot like those air compressor tanks, but I don't think that is what it is. It will be perfect though. It will be a bit bigger than my last furnace. I pulled the whole valve assembly off tonight and low and behold, there is about a 4" hole already there in the bottom (which will be the top). Perfect. All I need to do is start making my forms and building a frame. I have a welder this go around, so things should look a bit better than the last one too. I will use this one til it gives up the ghost and then chip all the cement out and get real refractory. I just can't take it any more. GOTTA MELT SOMETHIN'! I'll post pics to show the progress.

i take it that you have checked out anoemarines new furnace (elcheapo 2)its a great design.

I have not yet. I probably need to get on the forum and look around a bit. I have not been keeping up with things not having a furnace and all. I should probably investigate a bit before I proceed. Building one from this tank may require some changes in my design from the 5 gallon bucket too.

you should check his out as he sorted took from your design and added his extra bits like a lid lifter. he is a great bloke and doesnt mind if we copy it. it works a treat and thats the main thing.btw i made a snap flask similar to your design and it works a treat.
