Hey Jammer! Thought I'd hear from you eventually! And guilty as charged! I still think that this is a more than viable metalcasting burner, and I think it can be drastically improved on. And I have to build another one anyways. I checked on my gassifier the other day, and sitting out this winter didn't do nice things to it... It's a little worse for wear. Oh well, one more project!

Thanks for the answers

The fume&smell won't be the problem,I know mom would kill me if I aim to rise a casting workshop in the garden, only place here would be the garage ,which is yet occupied by other stuff,so I'll search for an approbiate place to make my casting projects come true(distance between your home and your workshop is sometimes adorable^^).

I remember somebody posted a YT video here from somebody casting steel with an stone coal furnace, didn't find the link yet again.I know the melting temperature of Steel is high ,so it would be a hard task to solve.

That wood&gas burner looks interesting well =)
I've seen some oldschool furnaces in art&bell foundrys ,they looked really interesting to me(will try to find pictures for you).

Thanks ,Julian

Just a thought on the wood burner, basically the lower section heats the upper portion to create wood gas, why not replace the lower section with an electric hot plate? this would make it alot easier to control than trying to regulate the burn in the lower section. atleast in theory
