Cheapest/Simplest furnace ever? 2 Years, 9 Months ago  
Today I tried melting zinc in a can using a charcoal lighter thingy. I was very happy with the results. I ended up using a lot less fuel then normal because the heat is so well contained. I think this would be a good method for beginers because it is so cheap and simple.



the crucible is below the top can which is acting as a lid.

More pics and all my other metal working stuff.
Simple zinc furnace.

i think you have something there!!!i had a heat bead starter but it long gone. but they are simple to make thanks for the idea im sure it may be improved on very cheaply.

If you can get a pipe under it with an old blow dryer, you can get some serious heat.

I like the idea of a solid air supply. be very happy if that was enough for aluminum.

Id bet it will do al with no problems, definetly great for someone who want to give metal casting a shot and doesnt want to invest much at first. Would also be easy to sneak by wife while shopping

did you mean the bottom of your can melted chevyon? you might want to check the material it was made from, and make sure you use somthing with a higher melt temp than aluminum
