Have any of you used one of the Beckett type burners that were used for residential home heating? If so, I have several questions that I need to have answered before I start making it GO I need to have a better idea in my mind as to modifications that need to be made... anybody?

I know several people have used them with good results, they will put out plenty o' heat, and have the added benefit of pushbutton starting. The plumbing is a little more critical (and expensive), and a good filter/maybe a preheat system is a must. A clogged nozzle is always a possibility, but they can be cleaned and replaced pretty easily and inexpensively. No modifications at all need to be done to the actual burner itself, except for wiring it for constant on and adjusting the air baffle for correct burn with the fuel that you are using. Let's face it, all the tough engineering has been done already. I've been tempted a few times myself to experiment with one. Worse comes to worse, you can always burn diesel in it, which is what it was designed for in the first place.

Thanks for the information. I have a couple of Becketts and have been considering undertaking the project. There is a fair amount of expense involved. At the moment, I have a friend who has developed a very esay to use and cheap to build set up that works quite nicely. Key phrase of course is "cheap to build" We'll see and I'll post the results.
