Burner size/ design 2 Years, 12 Months ago
Well I have committed to it have the refractory in the furnace curing and now I need a burner size and or design the furnace particulars are 18" od 10" id and 18" vertical using Kastolite 26 LI ( 5 bags at 55 lbs does makes you wonder about the name kastolite)
I plan on doing brass and alumin. Is it possible to run it off of natural gas from the house as opposed to propane? Iv'e got access to a full machine shop so the burner design wouldn't be limited to availble pipe fittings. any suggestions? thanks

I do not see any reason why it will not work. I am an advocate of waste oil burners though. Mine is free to run. The thing you will need in a furnace that big is a big enough blower. I doubt a hair dryer will work. Get a vacum motor or leaf blower and choke it off if you have to.

i would be a bit worried about hooking it up to the main gas line on the house. if something should go wrong !!!!!!!!

I found a design on the web and machined it up its about 1.125 ID and about 11 inches long. I'll run it off of propane until it all gets proven out more I need to get my whole furnace outside and assemble it all to try it out. they are talking 5 inches of snow tonite. I did score on some bentonite today a 50lb bag for $9 so I'll just goof around making acessories until it warms up abit then get a good trial run on the burner
