i cast these today in brass. they are 40mm in diametre. a bit of a cleanup with the file and turn them to size and they will be ready for fitting to model steam engines.

your brass casting is looking very good, whats your secret?
I tried melting some old brass pipe and made something that resembled a meteorite, It was brown black crusty and lumpy. But it was clean inside...

Sounds like you needed some flux. Good old 20 Mule Team Borax seems to work OK.

Flywheels look great.

the brass i used was old brass pipe fittings which had threads on them. i figure if a thread could be cut on them they would be okay for casting. i didnt use any flux and i stirred it hard. there was a lot of crap in the bottom of the pot which i just bang out!these flywheels are for rare australian steam models.the pattern was taken off this model.

I like that design. Does the boiler have tubes in it for the heat, or just the pipe up the center? Would you happen to have a sketch or some plans for that? You guys are going to get me into steam yet. That's all I need, another project.

very nice model oh yea jammer we will get you hooked yet! There is just something about watching an open column steam engine running and being able to watch all the parts move. not to mention how quietly they do it.

I've always been into hit and miss engines. My ex's granddad had over 100 of them, from 60 pounds up to a ton. They all got sold when he passed and I was too broke to buy any.
