I made up a pickle of sulfuric acid and water 20/% and 80/% to clean up old brass prior to casting, the old brass came out very clean but very copper colored, I guess it ate the zinc off the surface.. anyone tried this? seems to work well

I've got some commercial toilet fixtures I was going to soak in HCl to get the chrome off. I'm not sure if it's nessasary if I can melt it at low temps and skim the chrome off with the slag. I've got less than 10# so I probably will soak it.
