finished cast aluminum apple 2 Years, 2 Months ago
this is kinda cheating but it came out nice.

the apple was a real apple that i took a bite out of,

then invested it and burn it out and cast.

i smithed a small leaf and a stem out of steel

i drilled a hole in the casting and inserted it.

the finish is a combination of

automotive spray paint and chemical etch.

enjoy,

george

Looks sweet.
Did ya have ta do a lot of clean up on it, or did it come out that smooth?

I think ya should get yer smithin tools back out and add a worm comming out of it too.

the worm is a clever idea...

thanks for the suggestion.

the clean up was a breeze!

the raw cast out of the investment was very nice

( info on the investment in a different forum )

some light flashing and a few bubbles.

these flaws were easily removed with a file.

then all i did was run a scotchbrite disk on a die grinder.

the apple surface was already nice and smooth.

thanks again for the comment.

I thought I would E-mail this and the post with the aluminum broccoli to a guy I know and I tried to use the back button to get to the other thread. I got hung up on my posting page and that made me post the same thing over so I edited it to that.

I looked but could not find a "delete" post button just an edit.
Most forums let you delete the last post if no others have been made.
I know now to only go forward. Hitting "subscribe" takes me to my profile as hard as I try not to too. Right click and open in a new window is the way to go about this forum, then close the window at the end leaveing you with your start page still up.
