My first aluminum casting 3 Years, 5 Months ago
I decided to thow out a pic of my first casting. Nothing really spectacular, but it did come out as well as i was hopeing for. this was cast useing wood tree trimmings in a 14" dia ss pipe sitting on top of a metal grate supported with bricks. definetly nothing fancy about it. I tried to melt brass with this set up and did get it to melt but could not get it to liquify to where it could be poured. Im going to try a different set up (still burning wood) to see if I can get it hotter useing some forced air and reduceing the ID of the pipe with some fire place bricks to put more heat to the crucible (3" pipe) Ill post the new set up after I get it to work the way I want it to.

Very nice. ! Sometimes the small ones give the most trouble becuse of not keeping the heat to flow out and fill.

Congratulation for your first attempt! Me too, I would like to try to make some aluminum die-castings but maybe I think I should still study something more about this field so please tell me where I can find informations on this topic. I've just learnt something by visiting this site: http://en.fondvacuum.it/. Many thanks to everybody!

Many thanks to everybody!why not try sand casting first. die casting machines are very expensive and the dies are too with sometimes limited use.if you have a spare $$$1/2 million pressure die casting could be the way to go.
