I finally did it! After the third try, I got a good cast. It is one of the bases for the gingery lathe. Woohoo! Now I just need to do it again. My quality is also getting a little better.

I use a piece of wood 2x2 about 8 inches long for now, but yesterday I sanded it down to make the middle round and the ends the way I want them I will cast it this week and have a metal one that is much heavier.

this sounds exciting! it will take about a kg to fill with aluminium. keep us posted with progress. i have a small adept lathe which im tempted to use as a pattern and cast but as i have a small lathe i dont know what i would do with a second.i think dave gingery wrote a book on how to cast a lathe. check out.www.backyardmetalcasting.com/lathe1.html

Yea, that i the book I am using to make mine. I have that whole series, so I plan on making the mill, shaper, and brake as well. I think this will take quite some time though.

I do. I don't think I will build it though. I like my oil fired furnace because it is free to run.
