General questions about Aluminium 2 Years, 6 Months ago

Hello Folks,
I have some basic question to ask you. Thanks for your input.
1-Does the solid form float on the surface of the liquid form or sink to the bottom?
2-What tool do you use to measure the temperature of liquid form? And where do you get these tool?
3-Can we weld two sheet of Aluminium together using some flux, heat and pressure? What flux to use if so?
Thanks very much,
Yves

the float isuue Density vs weight
measurement tool for tempature is a pyrometer
resistance welding aluminum see www.aws.org/wj/2005/01/034/

Well I don't know the density of Liquid and solid Aluminium. If I did, I would not have ask the qestion.
So which state is more dense ?
Thanks,
Yves

According to Wiki solid is more dense than liquid.
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250471491580
Here's a thermo couple set up that's pretty cheap, you may need to convert it to your own currency, I don't know why it came up AU $.. ??
Thanks for you answer. I was not certain for density (solid vs liquid) since water is an exception. Ice float on water, which is why life is possible in the Northern sphere...
Thanks for the eBay link. The seller is in Honk Kong but listed his tem on eBay Australia, that is why it's listed in that currency. It look like a good price!

A good way to tell is if it shrinks or expands in solid form.
Alum shrinks - more dense & sinks (in alum liquid)
water (ice) expands - less dense & floats

Yep that is a good observation. This one is going to stick. Thanks,
